We Can Be Close
2020 - present
120mm film

We Can Be Close explores the significance of physical touch, emotional intimacy, and closeness with those around us. Constantly unearthing the complexities of touch, my fascination with, and desperate yearning for, closeness has only heightened during the pandemic.

This ongoing, collaborative exploration turns a tender and inquisitive eye on the body and form to express feelings of togetherness and unspoken connectivity. By withholding the nature of the relationships shown, the viewer is invited to challenge their own assumptions of intimacy in regards to ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.

Employing the slow, mechanical process of medium format film, I gently excavate the layers of vulnerability between family members, roommates, lovers, neighbors and friends. Physical and emotional connection demands trust and a continued curiosity that exists between my collaborators, the camera, and myself.
